OneDrive displays a 0x8004de40 error for many reasons. Your internet connection may not be working, you may have not enabled the required TLS versions, your firewall may have blocked OneDrive’s access to the internet, and more.

Check Your Internet Connection

Microsoft recommends enabling various TLS versions on your PC to resolve a 0x8004de40 error in OneDrive. It’s easy to turn on these TLS versions on your PC.

  1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing Windows + R.
  2. Type the following in the box and press Enter: inetcpl.cpl
  3. Open the Advanced tab on the window.

Disable the Proxy on Your PC

Many Windows users report that a process called CTF Loader is consuming a significant amount of system resources, slowing down their PCs dramatically. But what is CTF Loader? And can you prevent it from slowing your system down so much?

In this article, we’ll explain what the CTF Loader process is and why it’s important. Then, we’ll explain how you can reduce its high CPU usage.

What Is the CTF Loader Process?

CTF Loader, or ctfmon.exe, stands for Collaborative Translation Framework Loader. It’s an important Windows process that ensures that Windows components can communicate together and work effectively.

For example, Windows uses the CTF Loader to activate different languages in Microsoft Office’s Language Bar. It also enables speech recognition, keyboard translation, and text support for different input languages.

In other words, the CTF Loader process is integral to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems and is required for various components to work correctly.

However, it can often drain system resources, having a particularly noticeable effect on your CPU usage. And while CTF Loader is a completely benign and official Windows program, malware can be installed on your system that mimics the process.

If you’ve noticed that the CTF Loader is slowing down your computer significantly, here’s what you can do to fix the situation.

1. Make Sure CTF Loader is Authentic

Hackers often design their malware and viruses to masquerade as common, essential Windows processes so that they go unnoticed. Unfortunately, CTF Loader is one of the common targets for this practice.

So, before trying to fix the CTF Loader error, it’s worth making sure that the file is a legitimate executable and not malicious software.

To do so:

  1. Right-click the Taskbar and select Task Manager.
  2. Right-click CTF Loader and select Properties.
  1. Copy the file path next to “Location.”
  1. Open the File Explorer and paste the file path into the search bar, then press Enter.
  1. Right-click Ctfmon.exe and select Properties.
  1. Select the Details tab.
  2. Make sure that next to “Copyright”, it says “© Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved“.

If something else is written here, it’s very likely that you have malware on your hands.

Another way to tell whether or not the CTF Loader is legitimate is by checking its file path. It should only be installed in two locations:

  1. C:\Windows\System32
  2. C:\Windows\SysWOW64

If it’s installed anywhere else, it’s likely malware or spyware. In this case, you should use your antivirus program or Windows Defender (via Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security) to scan your computer and remove all traces of it.

2. Download Windows Updates

Pending or currently downloading Windows updates can occasionally cause the CTF Loader to go haywire. Download and install any currently pending Windows updates and check whether the CTF Loader stops using so much of your system resources.

To do so:

  1. Press the Windows key + I to open Settings.
  2. Select Update & Security.
  1. Select Check for updates.
  1. Download any available updates.

3. Disable the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service

If disabling the Text Input Management Service didn’t work, you can try disabling a related service known as the Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service. To do so:

  1. Press Ctrl + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Type services.msc and press Enter.
  1. Scroll down and double-click Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Services.
  1. Set the Startup type drop-down menu to Disabled.
  1. Press OK.

4. Prevent the CTF Loader From Running

You can disable CTF Loader completely in a last-ditch effort to cut down its CPU usage. However, this can have a negative effect on Microsoft Office programs and other word processors — so proceed with caution!

To prevent CTF Loader from running:

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open Run.
  2. Type taskschd.msc and press Enter.
  1. On the left side, double-click the Task Scheduler Library.
  2. Navigate to Microsoft then Windows.
  1. Double-click TextServicesFramework.
  1. Right-click MsCtfMonitor and select Disable.

5. Check Whether Windows is Corrupted

Windows 10 and 11 provide a program known as the System File Checker which can scan and repair corrupt files. To use the SFC program:

  1. Press Windows key to open the Start Menu.
  2. Search for “Command Prompt.”
  3. Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
  1. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Wait for the utility to search and fix any potential issues in your system, then check whether the CTF Loader issue has gone away.

With your email account’s username and password ready, follow these steps to add your account back in your Mail app:

  3. Select Other account on the open window.

To turn off Sticky Keys in the settings:

  2. In the Settings Menu on the left-hand side, select Accessibility.
  3. Scroll down to the Interaction section and select Keyboard.
  1. Toggle the Sticky Keys option off.

Note that this will not stop Sticky Keys from being reactivated when you press Shift 5 times again. You can turn off that shortcut using the procedures outlined in the previous section.

Unsticky Keys

While Sticky Keys (and the similar Filter Keys feature) can be helpful for those with specific impairments, it can also be frustrating as it causes constant pop-up dialog boxes while playing games. In this troubleshooting guide, you’ll learn various methods to fix Outlook calendar synchronization issues on the iPhone. You can also use them to troubleshoot similar problems on the iPad and iPod touch.

1. Enable the Calendar (Outlook App Only)

If the events for a specific calendar fail to sync in Outlook for iOS, it could be because the calendar’s not enabled within the app. To check and fix that:

  1. Switch to the Calendar tab in Outlook.
  2. Tap your profile portrait or initials on the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. Check the list of calendars. If the calendar is inactive, tap to enable it.

2. Activate Calendar Syncing (iOS Calendar Only)

If none of your Outlook calendars appear within the iPhone’s native Calendar, the chances are your Outlook account is not set to sync with the app. If you only see your iCloud calendars:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Calendar.
  3. Tap Accounts.
  1. Tap Outlook.
  2. Turn on the switch next to Calendars if it’s inactive.

3. Force-Quit and Relaunch Outlook/Calendar

Occasionally, the Outlook app or iOS Calendar can malfunction and stop syncing the latest Outlook calendar events. To fix that:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to bring up the App Switcher. If you use an iPhone with Touch ID, double-click the Home button.
  2. Drag the Outlook or Calendar card to the top of the screen to remove it.

4. Check the Outlook Server Status

5. Toggle Airplane Mode on iPhone

Unexpected internet issues are another reason that prevents your Outlook calendars from syncing. If you’re looking for a quick way to restore connectivity, try enabling and disabling your iPhone’s Airplane Mode.

To do that, swipe down from the screen’s top-right to open the Control Center. Then, tap the Airplane Mode icon, wait for 10 seconds, and tap it again.

If the problem persists, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data or vice versa. Or, connect to another Wi-Fi hotspot and check if that makes a difference.

6. Restart Your iPhone

A system software reboot refreshes the iPhone’s memory and clears potential glitches or errors preventing Outlook calendars from syncing. Additionally, the procedure resets your network connections and reestablishes communication between the device and the Outlook servers.

To do that, invoke Siri (press and hold the Side/Home button), say Restart iPhone, and tap Restart on the confirmation pop-up.

7. Enable Background App Refresh (Outlook App Only)

If Background App Refresh for Outlook is inactive on an iPhone, calendar data syncing fails unless the app runs in the foreground. If that’s what you’re dealing with:

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap Outlook.
  3. Enable Background App Refresh to provide the app permissions to run in the background.

8. Disable Low Data Mode on iPhone

iOS devices come with Low Data Mode, which restricts background data usage on Wi-Fi and cellular. Disabling the feature could fix iPhone calendar sync issues.

Disable Low Data Mode on Wi-Fi

  1. Open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi.
  2. Tap the Info icon next to the active Wi-Fi connection.
